A house in London that once belonged to Freddie Mercury sold for almost £30 million, or over $38 million.

According to a press announcement on Monday, the Queen rock icon purchased the property known as the Garden Lodge, which is listed by Knight Frank.
When he passed away in 1991, he bequeathed the house and all of its belongings to his friend Mary Austin.

Austin declared in 2023 that she was leaving her position as custodian of his possessions. Subsequently, Sotheby’s conducted the “Freddie Mercury: A World of His Own” auction later that year, whereby his belongings, including the piano on which he composed “Bohemian Rhapsody,” were sold for a price over $2 million.

It’s time to sell his previous house now.

According to the press release, Austin remarked, “This house has been the most glorious memory box, because there is such love and warmth in every room.” “Now that it’s vacant, it takes me back to when we first saw it. It has been a peaceful location, a genuine artist’s abode, ever since Freddie and I entered through the mythical green door. Now is the right moment to pass that tranquility on to the next person.”

Built in 1907 in the Neo-Georgian style, Mercury hired interior designer Robin Moore Ede to renovate the house to suit his own aesthetic.

Freddie Mercury’s favorite color was painted in the Garden Lodge dining room. For over $38 million, Knight Frank is currently accepting offers for the London residence. This marks its debut on the market following the 1991 passing of its previous owner, Freddie Mercury.
The property, according to Knight Frank, “offers grand proportions yet a comfortable homely feel.” It consists of a small dining room painted in his favorite color, a garden away from the bustling city streets, and a two-story drawing room with magnificent windows where he kept his piano.

Access to the main suite is located upstairs through a dressing room that is completely mirrored and, according to Knight Frank, “in itself a stage set.”
“With huge enthusiasm for entertaining his close circle of friends, Freddie designed the house to be a memorable, inviting place that reflected his vibrant personality and eclectic vision,” according to the announcement.
